About Us
Friends of Pittock started approximately 15 years ago as a group of concerned citizens caring about the condition of the nature trails on the south shore of the Gordon Pittock reservoir. The group rejuvenated in the fall of 2006 with a tremendously successful membership drive as we were made aware of land designation changes that could lead to the sale or lease and development of park and conservation land in the Thames River Corridor through Woodstock.
The community support for Friends of Pittock has grown. The message is loud and clear; we care about the future of these lands and we want them protected and preserved.
Friends of Pittock is a not-for-profit community organization dedicated to the protection and restoration of our community green spaces.
Our Objectives
To proactively encourage the identification and setting aside of lands (in Woodstock and OxfordCounty) where protection and restoration can occur to make the existing natural heritage system more complete through local restoration plans.
To promote and encourage the preservation, care and maintenance of all public lands, waters and wildlife in the City of Woodstock, Ontario and Oxford County in order to:
- Preserve and enhance natural heritage sites
- Preserve wildlife habitats
- Further the development of trails and passive recreation areas
- Support conservation education programs
We have a continuous greenbelt in Woodstock. Let’s keep it that way!
At a time when Woodstock is experiencing unprecedented growth, it becomes all the more important to protect our remaining green space for recreational use and wildlife protection. In many communities valuable green space and wildlife habitats are already a thing of the past. Woodstock is an exception; we have a wonderful nature corridor right on our doorstep, more than 20 km of well maintained and accessible nature trails surrounded by peace and tranquility.
